CarrieZ - Preparing for BowCast at the Bird – Achy Lungs at 8,000 feet…

The holidays are over, 2010 has begun, there's nothing to hunt and no reason to go outside.

Like every year, I gained a few pounds, and somehow got lazy.  I finished a couple of X-Box games and caught up on a few books.  I love my couch right now more than anything in the world.

Motivation this time of year is a killer...

Time to snap out of it!

CarrieZ - Gobbler or a Hen? That is the Question & How to Tell the Difference.

Carrie Zylka

Turkey season is fast approaching, my favorite game to hunt will always be Whitetail Deer; but Turkey and Pheasant battle it out for second place.

When you're out there, sitting in a blind or calling against a tree and a flock of turkeys come in, how do you know which one to take?

Last year Wisconsin legislatures came up with a great way to introduce our youth to the wonders of hunting.

After failed attempts to try and reduce the minimum age a new plan was hatched.  Enter the Mentor...

Carrie - Wisconsin Legislators Are Talking Turkey

Posted by Carrie Zylka in Untagged

Carrie Zylka

I am of two minds regarding this issue!

While I certainly don't want our turkey herd decimated by over hunting, as a weekend warrior, it sure would be nice to actually be able to hunt when I can.

Another year come and gone, 2009 flew by like a Full Metal Jacket shot with a 90 pound Elite GT500.  What a whirlwind year.   How many of us got involved with BowCast in 2009, whether its staff, sponsors, and of course the all important BowCast nation?  How many new friends did we make, and how much have we all learned?

Carrie - Review of the Nikon ProStaff 16-48x65 2.5/65mm Spotting Scope

Posted by Carrie Zylka in Untagged

Carrie Zylka

When I got my spotting scope this past summer it was like Christmas in July.  Sleek and powerful I knew it would be a welcome tool to be used in the field.

The package contained the scope, a window mount and a tripod in the Realtree camo design, the tripod was sturdy and the cloth cover for the scope itself seemed very durable.  I immediately took it outside and set it up in the front yard just to see what I could see.

Carrie – Nikon Rifle 550 Review & a Fun Game to Play!

When I use my rifle to hunt, I don't worry too much about yardage.  The minute I picked up a bow all of that changed.  It never really occurred to me how important being able to gauge distance really was until it came down to a 5 ring at 20 yards and missing at 25 yards!

My next logical step was to get me a good range finder.

Simply because I was TERRIBLE at judging distances.

It was the 1st day of deer season!!

When I first arrived at the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, it was the middle of the night.  We had rented a car from the airport and drove up this crazy winding road, Snowbird came out of nowhere and took my breath away, even at night.

The staff members in the Cliff Lodge lobby were quick and efficient and we were up in our room on the 5th floor in no time.

Pope & Young - Who Are These Guys Anyway?

Posted by Carrie Zylka in ScorePope YoungCarrie Zylka

Carrie Zylka

"Here we have a weapon of beauty and romance. He who shoots with a bow, puts his life's energy into it. The force behind the flying shaft must be placed there by the archer. At the moment of greatest strain, he must draw every sinew to the utmost; his hand must be steady; his nerves under absolute control; his eye keen and clear. In the hunt he pits his well trained skill against the instinctive cunning of his quarry. By the most adroit cleverness, he must approach within striking distance, and when he speeds his low whispering shaft and strikes his game, he has won by strength of arm and nerve. It is a noble sport." -- Dr. Saxton Pope (1923)

This is the intro to the Pope & Young Webpage.
