summer deer count.

Part 1: Logistics and Saturday

            When you think of 3D archery shoots, a few key items come to mind, foam

inserts, manufacturers like Rinehart and the R-100, field tips, and targets set up for

everyone to take a shot at.

I have read and heard from several people that they are not attending because it is too for or too expensive.

While I can't see into everyone's checkbook to see if this is the case or if it's a case of thinking you can't afford it.

O dark 30 dawned dark and early on Friday, the alarm went off and I eagerly jumped out of bed, Pat was there in the motel parking lot at 4 am to pick me up and we made the quick 15 minute drive to a sprawling cattle farm. 

The wind was whipping and it was a brisk 45 degrees as we made our way across field to a small island of trees.  At which point Pat began cursing as we realized the blind he had set the night before had blown away sometime during the night!  Making the best of it, we set up inside the trees and waited for dawn to break.

Midwesterners tend to forget that while limited, there are a few opportunities much closer to home.

But truth be told, the work out regime I've set for myself to get ready for BATB was being negated by the fact that I couldn't give up my "coffee".

Like every year, I gained a few pounds, and somehow got lazy.  I finished a couple of X-Box games and caught up on a few books.  I love my couch right now more than anything in the world.

Motivation this time of year is a killer...

Time to snap out of it!

Turkey season is fast approaching, my favorite game to hunt will always be Whitetail Deer; but Turkey and Pheasant battle it out for second place.

When you're out there, sitting in a blind or calling against a tree and a flock of turkeys come in, how do you know which one to take?

Last year Wisconsin legislatures came up with a great way to introduce our youth to the wonders of hunting.

After failed attempts to try and reduce the minimum age a new plan was hatched.  Enter the Mentor...

I am of two minds regarding this issue!

While I certainly don't want our turkey herd decimated by over hunting, as a weekend warrior, it sure would be nice to actually be able to hunt when I can.

Another year come and gone, 2009 flew by like a Full Metal Jacket shot with a 90 pound Elite GT500.  What a whirlwind year.   How many of us got involved with BowCast in 2009, whether its staff, sponsors, and of course the all important BowCast nation?  How many new friends did we make, and how much have we all learned?
