Product Review - Sure-Loc QC

Anthony and I first saw the sight when we visited the Sure-Loc booth at the [[Archery Trades Association]] (ATA) show back in January. As we did with many of the products we tested and reviewed at ATA, we took notes on each product detailing what was new and cutting edge, and what was not so new. We did the samefor the Sure-Loc QC.

What is not new with this sight is the high quality and dependability that goes hand in hand with a Sure-Loc sight. The QC is both light weight and extremely durable. Whether you are climbing up and down from a tree stand or hoofing ridges in the Western mountains, sight durability is a top priority to ensure no “surprises” when the buck or bull of a lifetime is in front of you. We have preached the importance of 3rd Axis tuning as well as micro-adjustability – all available on the QC – nothing new. In addition, the solid construction on the QC is available in black, Realtree APG or Matthew’s Lost Camo – it will match your camo setup perfectly – another detail that Sure-Loc did not leave on the table with the QC.

The exciting part is what IS new to us archery hunters with the QC. We have all gone through the exercise of sighting in. It is one of the more tedious activities we do – but it is one of the most important. The new sight goes on, then paper tune, adjust, re-paper tune, get out on the range, adjust, and adjust again. We’ve all been there. We may use a different draw weight for turkey season (like I do), or we may shoot different arrows on the 3D range versus in the field and we may have an early season big game hunt out West before we climb into our tree stand for later Whitetail rut hunts. Every single one of these activities affects our sight pin configuration, and therefore leads to another exercise in sight adjustment.

What if these activities didn’t have to lead pin adjustments? What if you had a pin setup that matched the type of shooting you were doing on the 3D course, on the range, different hunting situations in the field, and with the variety of setups you may have going?

It was this question that the engineers at Sure-Loc asked that led to the innovation of the QC design. The sight housing features a quick-change module that slides in and out of the sight housing. Want a 3 pin setup – slide it in. Want a 5 pin setup – slide it in. Break a pin in the field – slide your backup module in. One of the more obvious advantages of this type of setup is to have one module for field tips and one for broad heads. We all re-tune our sights when it comes time to shoot broad heads. With the QC design, you can be tuned in for BOTH field points and broad heads year round!

I don’t know about all of you, but with the amount of shooting I do throughout the year, and the amount of tinkering I do with my equipment to get it “doped in”, I like the concept of a “plug and shoot” sight that doesn’t waste valuable time re-sighting in. For anyone out there is looking for a quality sight that gives you tremendous versatility and saves you time, I highly suggest checking out the QC.

Now, here is another bit of icing on the cake for the budget conscious archery hunter. As most of you now, my bread and butter sight is the Sure-Loc Sportsman’s Special Single Pin. I absolutely love this sight, but it does come with a bit of a higher price tag. That’s OK by me as whenever possible, I don’t like to skimp on my equipment – you get what you pay for. However, there have been many times in my archery hunting career where I haven’t had $200+ to lay down on a sight. If you are looking for the dependability and versatility of a top dog sight, the good news for you is the QC is available NOW, and is starts under $100. Check it out on at the link below. If you do, leave a comment with any questions or reviews you may have:

http://www.sureloc.com/hunting

UPCOMING SHOW NOTE: As I searched for more info on the QC sight, I was introduced to Bill Epeards. You can read more about Bill's amazing career below - but one of the main reasons Anthony and I wanted to talk with Bill is he is using the QC in the field (something neither Anthony nor I have had the opportunity to do). Look for an upcoming episode where we talk Whitetail strategies and tactics with Bill on BowCast as well as why he has chosen the QC as his bread and butter sight, and exactly how he sets it up for year round shooting.

Bill Epeards

Bill Epeards has been featured on various hunting videos and is a regular guest on Mossy Oak’s “Hunting the Country,” ESPN’s “Jimmy Houston Outdoors” and “Today’s Bowhunter” by PSE on the Outdoor Channel. Bill has harvested record book deer, bear, antelope and mountain lion, plus many other species such as moose, elk, caribou, mule deer, javelina, wild boar and wild turkey, all with a bow and arrow. Bill also has several turkey grand slams to his credit, and has harvested eight Safari Club International record book animals in South Africa.

Not only does Bill travel the country hunting, he also teaches the latest hunting techniques through the Bill Epeards Outdoor Adventure Seminars.

[...]
