As an addendum to my last post, check out the video below. I go through S.M.A.R.T and how it applies to bow hunter fitness.
Also, I will be at the SHOT show with the rest of the BowCast team over the weekend, so I may be a little slower than normal replying to emails or blog posts. Thanks for your patience! Enjoy!

This is good stuff... Can you recommend a set of tools that you consider important to have before you start a program? Heart Monitors, Shoe Type, Documentation tools to track progress, just anything that you have learned that will make the process easier and more successful.
Also, I recently picked up a book on Core Performance and they seem to have some pretty neat exercises that really work the core. I am sure you have seen them but others might want to check it out. Are you planning on coming out with a video, book or on-line trainer? For me I am going to struggle with my weight all my life because of my body type and I have always been on the roller coaster. If you are looking for a "project" I am your man, Mentally I am at the point where I am ready to make it happen.
Once again thank you for doing this and lighting a fire under my butt...
Take Care

Jason,
Thanks for the feedback bro! Essential gear for a start-up fitness program could get pretty long, so to keep it simple I'd say you can't go wrong with investing in an heart rate monitor. I encourage "Polar" heart rate monitors www.polarusa.com and use them while you strength train and perform cardio bouts. I use the chest transmitter and wrist watch toghether. Shoe type isn't too critical, in fact I often encourage folks to train barefoot, but we'll save that topic for another date. The other essential is a rope 8-10ft for active stretching and I will cover in length how to maximize these dudes in a blog coming soon. If you're short on time and want to perform key core movements then you have to get a physioball (PB). PB's are also know as stability balls, swiss balls, and fitness balls. If you're under 5'8 buy a 55cm PB, 5'9 - 6'0 snag a 65cm PB, and if your 6'1 get yourself a 75cm ball.
The book Core Performance is written by a colleague of mine and fellow washatonian Mark Verstegan. I like a lot of his stuff and will integrate some of his methodology into our fitness project. Thanks again for the reply.

You mention on your video about making your goals relevant, and you talked about as bowhunters we may want to focus on our core (rather than big arms). What did you mean by that? Why is our core a priority, and how do we focus our exercise on our core?
