Podcast Description
On this episode Aneal and Anthony are joined by South Cox, contributing field editor for Eastman's Bowhunting Journal. South is just about as "bad ass" as they come when one talks about backcountry bowhunting. South shares his expertise on hunting out of a bivouac sack as well as a review of the equipment he recommends for anyone to get started in this exciting and rewarding type of backcountry bowhunting.
Image #1 - "Later in the season, when the snow threatens to fly, a one man tent is the prudent route to take"
Image #2 - "Thirteen miles from the trailhead, virgin country for a week. Either put up with other hunter pressure and work hard to find educated animals, or work hard to get away from other hunters and then hunt undisturbed bulls and bucks." .
Show Notes South mentioned a number of equipment manufacturers he trusts his life to when bivy hunting in the backcountry. Below are a few links to these manufacturer sites: Backpacks (Sitka Line of packs coming soon!) Bivy Sacks from Outdoor Research http://www.outdoorresearch.com/home/category/home/shelter/shelter_bivy Sleeping Bags from Marmot http://marmot.com/fall_2007/equipment/sleeping_bags Stove from Jetboil http://www.jetboil.com/Products/Cooking-Systems/Personal-(PCS) Sleeping Pads from Thermarest Food by Mountain House
Next Week Anthony and Aneal are back from ATA and are ready to debrief all of the BowCast listeners. We'll cover new products, trends, and the overall "buzz" from the 2008 Archery Trade Association show in Indianapolis, IN.
