You should see a small search box at the top of each page.  By entering your search words and pressing the "Enter" button on your keyboard, the site will return a list of content items that contain the results from your search.  This function will search the forums, podcasts, blogs, and any other areas of the site.

By using RSS, you can be notified as soon as new content is released on BowCast.  Simply click on the "Full Feed" link at the bottom-right of the Home page.  You will then need to choose between the options provided by you specific Internet Browser window.  Read more about RSS under the FAQ titled "What is an RSS feed?".

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" and is made available to represent a "feed" of current information pertaing to a website.  RSS is made available to you in a XML file-type format so that it can be read by your Internet Browser and other Feed aggregators.

Private Messaging or PM is useful tool that we use to communicate with registered users on the forums.  If you want to send a PM the easiest way is to go to the recipients profile and send the person a “Quick Message”.  You press the “Send Message” button to send the message.

 

 

 

Now that you know how to send a message, how can you tell if you have a message in your “Inbox”?  Well, that happens in two ways; the first is you will get an email to the email address that is in your profile. The second way is when you come back to visit BowCast you will get the message below in the upper left hand corner of your webpage.

If you click on the text in the box you will be directly routed to your PM area. Your PM area should look like the picture below.

By clicking on the message subject you can read the message.

Bowshout is a real-time networking tool.  We will primarily use it to foster a sense of community.  Technical items should not be posted in this area, those should be posted in the forum because the forums are searchable.  We will also use the Bowshout box for special events where we will have an industry experts on the Bowshout chat to answer your questions.

I have hear people talk about “chatting” on BowCast, where do I do this?
This is done in the Bowshout Chat box.  Type you message in the “Message” box and press return or press the “send” button.  Below is a picture of the box.

On the left of the page you will see a menu called “User Menu” select “Profile” from that list.  You will be directed to page that has a menu across the top. You will have two options “Community” or “Edit”,  select “Edit”. Then select the sub-menu called “Update your Image”.  Once you make the selection you will be direct to a page with the following lookup field.

Once you get to the point, you select the “Browse” button, you find your picture on your computer, you select that picture then you press the “Upload” button.  Once you press the button your picture will be added to your profile.

The podcasts are typically released on Sunday night.

It is important to note that you do not need an iPod or .mp3 player to listen to BowCast episodes.  You can navigate to a particular episode directly on the site, and click the "play" button to listen to the episode on your computer.
We do love our iPod's, however.  You can shop for an iPod at www.apple.com or at some major retailers near you such as Wal-Mart.

Listening to our Podcasts is probably easiest when done directly from out site.  All you have to do is go to the homepage and press the “Play Button”. Below is what the button looks like.

If you do not already have Apple's iTunes, you can get it here .  Once installed, open iTunes and open the iTunes Store by clicking the link in the left column called "iTunes Store".  Now, in the upper-right corner of the iTunes window, enter "BowCast.com" in the search box and select the podcast labeled "BowCast.com". 

Playing a video is pretty simple, all you have to do is press the “Play Button”. It is located on the low left hand part of the video.  If you are having difficulty seeing the video you can double click on the actual video the application will automatically redirect you to the Youtube.com page, from there you can view the video in full screen.

Once you have selected the “REPLY” button from within the thread you will see the screen below.  You will notice that the is a field labeled “Select Image file to attach”, press the “Browse” button that is associated with this field.  Select the image that you wish to post from your computer.  Then press the “[img]” button, the will place the tag “[img]” in your reply.  This ‘[img]” is where you picture will appear.  Once you have the picture where you want it and all of your text is entered you can press the “Submit” button to save and add your reply to the thread.

If you respond to a thread you will automatically be notified of any responses within that thread but if you just want to keep track of what is being said you can press the SUBSCRIBE button.  By doing you will automatically be notified via email when a response has been made with the thread.  

Before you can see the "Reply Topic" button and add your own posts you will need to register.

If you are a registered user starting a thread is pretty easy.  First you need to make sure that you are in the proper forum.  If it is a general bow hunting question then put it in the “General Bowhunting Discussion” forum, if it relates to a pod cast episode put it in the “BowCast Episode Discussion” forum.  
Once you have figured out where it goes then you can go into that forum and look for the “NEW THREAD” button.

Once you press the button you will be directed to a screen which will allow you to put in the “Subject:“ line and the message.  See below.         

In order to submit your message press the “Submit” button. You can also preview the message before you submit it by pressing the “preview” button.

Below is a sample of the “Search” box.  Just type in what you are looking for and press the “Go” button.
