Last year I drew a really good tag and I knew I had to the opportunity to take a really nice Coues deer. Knowing this I really pulled out all the stops on my yearly scouting.

Hello Little Lady

The unit that I drew is pretty big; the big problem is that everybody pretty much hunts the area that I call the BIG THREE. It is a series of three mountains and if you know anything about hunting it is pretty obvious where to setup your stands and blinds. My goal was to find an area off of these mountains and hopefully find myself a little honey hole; I was planning on having at least two cameras in the field at all times. I would check each camera every other week. So I had a plan now I needed to execute.

So I purchased a few cameras and I hung them. To be honest my first camera sites were pretty weak. I had a ton cow ass pictures but that was it. I knew that deer were in the area, I just needed to find them. For me I found that my most productive spots were on trails leading to water. During mid-summer I found a spot that had everything I was looking for; there was a solid water source, it was away from the typical hunting areas and it was REMOTE. I will post more pictures later but these two are my favorite. Look at the times when the pictures were taken.

RUN SISTER, RUN!!!!!!

PS... I think I called this lion in this spring... more on that later..

Take Care

Thanks Guys...
I really have had A LOT of fun playing with trail cameras... It is pretty addicting. I think the key to getting pictures in the WEST is that you need a reason for animals to be in front of the camera... it might be a water source or a mineral lick because western animals are not as patternable as eastern animals... I will post calling in story later.. it is pretty funny..
