Well first, I'd like to introduce myself to the Bowcast.com community. My name is Joseph, I'm 18 years old, and just graduated high school. I'm going to be going to Oregon State University to study wildlife biology and management. click on the picture to enlarge My blog is going to be about how I do things, both during the hunt and in preparation for it.
I truly have a passion for bowhunting and the animals I hunt. I have hiked the hills, in the footsteps of my father since I was four years old, and haven't stopped since then. It's become a true obsession for me; shooting indoors and photographing in the winter, shed hunting and turkey hunting the spring, scouting and 3D's in the summer, and hittin' the hills like no other in the fall.
The fall is my time to live among the spruce and lodgepole. The fall is my time to chase the bugle of my choice as it wafts it way up to my timberline outcropping. The fall is when I spend more time behind a pair of binoculars than I do without them. It is the time when I spend 18 hours a day, fully clad in camo. When I care not about the date of the calendar or the time on the clock, rather the position of the sun and the direction of the wind. Fall is when I want to get within spittin' distance of a velvet muley, and let a big ole bull come growling and slobberin' into 5 yards. I want to get lost in all that is wild and forget everything that isn't part of the north slope forests. Plain and simple, there is nothing that I love more than nocking an arrow, and arching the bow back on a big animal that I know I have worked hard for. I know that during that moment I'll have a OTC tag in my pocket, and be hunting public land.
To go along with my intro I'd like to do a rundown of the gear I'm using; First for my archery equipment, I am currently shooting a PSE X-Force 6 set at 72lbs, with a 30" draw length. I have a Trophy Taker Full Containment Top Load and a Spot Hogg Cameron Hanes 7DP with a Hogg Wrap and .19 pins. I am shooting a 10" Archery Kinetics Quad-Rod stabilizer and using a Fuse Posi-Lite 6 arrow quiver. For arrows I'm using Gold Tip Hunter XT's in a 7595 spine, tipped with either MX-3's or MX-4's. The whole combination gives me a bow shooting over 300 fps that generates a ton of KE, and is a solid hunting machine.
I'm using an array of optics, all from Vortex Optics. I have both a set of 8x42's and 15x50's in the Viper Series, a pair of 10x42 Vortex Vipers, and a set of Vortex Vultures in 12x50. I also use the Vortex Skyline Spotting Scope 20-60x80 on top of a Ridgeview tripod.
I have found a backpack/sleeping bag setup that works very efficiently and I was able to purchase on a very affordable budget. This season I will be using a Kelty 4750 Coyote pack, a Kelty Zero Degree Katu sleeping bag, with a Threm-a-Rest Trail Lite Self-inflating pad, also a 100oz Platypus. For a stove, I am going with a Brunton Raptor to cook Mountain House meals. I will be using an REI Roadster 1-man Bivy tent, weighing less than 4lbs, it will be an awesome option to stay out of the weather.
So that's a rundown of what I'll be using this year to chase pronghorn, elk and deer this year. Hopefully you have an idea of what I'm all about and be able to learn a thing or two from my blog in the weeks leading up to bow season. Trackback(0)

I too will be attending college this fall as a undergraduate pursuing the same major as you.
Keep the arrows and the A's straight this year.
