Podcast Description

For those of us planning an Elk hunt this year, the season is just around the corner for the majority of Western archery tags. For those of us who are heading out this year, or maybe have plans to hunt elk in the future, we all have heard the demands it takes to be successful against the great Wapiti. It's usually a physically demanding hunt, logistics play a big part being in remote areas of the high alpine and back country, and overall presents one of the greatest archery hunting challenges - and that is exactly why we all love it.

So what are the best tactics for Elk? We've all seen the TV shows, and read the magazine articles that give a ton of advice on successful tactics for hunting elk. Many of the resources out there spend a ton of time relating how to "talk" with Elk, or how to eliminate your scent to fool the Wapiti's nose. On this episode of BowCast we present a different perspective with a foundation solely on Elk biology and behavior.

BowCast is joined once again by long time friend and certified wildlife biologist Chris Roe. As Aneal indicates in the intro of this show, Chris spent 3 years of his life living with one specific Elk herd in Colorado studying and researching the biology and behavior of what make Elk tick. Chris is a pro-staffer for Primos hunting calls and PSE and brings 13 years of experience in Elk biology to the table to share with us all how to use the perception of Elk (sight, sound, and smell) to create effective setups on big bulls and increase our success in the field. Eliminating scent is the most important when hunting elk, right? Listen in and hear from an expert on what to focus on when hunting elk.
