Hey Everybody...

With the hunting seasons starting to ramp up I thought I would share with  everybody one of my biggest money savers....  HOMEMADE SCENT KILLER...

16 oz. (2cups) 3% peroxide ( the brown bottle stuff works fine)
16 oz. (2cups) distilled water
1/4 cup baking soda
1 oz. non scented shampoo

If you want to make a bigger batch just keep the ratios intact.

Mix baking soda and water together until soda is dissolved.

Add peroxide and soap and finish mixing together.

Let sit for several days( a gallon milk jug work good with lid loose to let gas escape).

Put in a spray bottle and and you are ready to rock

"Kill" Scent?
written by aroney, September 09, 2008
JBro,
As always, thanks for the recipe that may save us a few bucks.

I would like to try this concoction, but am curious about some of the science behind it (I didn't do so well in chemistry class...so forgive me).

First off, I know baking soda absorbs odors, but does it help in truly "killing" the odors? What does the peroxide do? Also, what brand of "non scented" shampoo do you recommend? How have you measured the success of this recipe?

As a true BowCaster, I am just trying to learn about your experiences with this "homemade recipe" and break down how exactly it works. I am all about saving money, but am curious how/why in your experience this recipe has been effective. I am sure others have the same questions - I just went ahead and asked them smilies/grin.gif

Scent Killer
written by jamaro, September 09, 2008
Lets see... I have never seen the peroxide bleach my Camo. It might leave a white residue like all scent killers but it is pretty minor. I think that is the baking soda..

The Peroxide kills all the bacteria...

I use Hunter Specialties soap. The soap basically makes everything "stick" to what you are applying it to...

The story is that this is the exact recipe that Scent Killer uses somehow it got out. If you search the net you will see several other sources...

It is the only scent killer that I currently use, I just refill old bottles. When you mix it makes sure that you leave the lids off of your containers... If you put the lids on tight, THE CONTAINER WILL BLOW... Yes I know first had... smilies/smiley.gif

As far as working I have done a few tests and it rocks.. A few years ago in Elk camp my buddies shoes were just nasty.. We spray one with Brand Name Scent Killer and one with my little potion and they both killed the scent.... Last year I sprayed my nasty scouting hat with it and it stopped stinking...

It is good stuff give it a try.

OOO this is just red neck enough for me and somehow I believe it. That psudo chemistry seems to make sense, good enought to save my money on and give it a shot... hell, I'll shower myself in it and go from there...

Nice being innovative, I am sure more of us while try the secret solution...

Differnet Recipe

I use a recipe I found here, and have had good luck with it.

This article says to not use the brown bottle Hydrogen Peroxide because it has an oder, whereas pure Hydrogen Peroxide does not.
